| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A few years old but still great (28 March 2007)This book is very much a legspinner encyclopedia. Every aspect of the "art" of legspinning bowling is discussed in a very digestible yet entertaining manner. I can't think of anything that has been missed; of course just reading this book won't make you the next Shane Warne (doubt anyone will be!) but it will provide you with the knowledge which along with some talent and a lot of dedication and work, will enable you to become the best legspinner you can! Buy it if you are a legspinner who wants to improve your game in any and every way and also thoroughly recommended for coaches - and I guess also for batsmen who want to solve the mysteries of legspin but we legspinner don't want batsmen to know our tricks of trade! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Philpott is a leading authority (30 November 2005)PP differentiates himself from other coaches beacuase he follows the spirit of the game - the role of a batsman is to score runs and a strike bowler is to take wickets. This simple fact is often overlooked by the "scientific" approach practiced by other coaches. At the end of the day you want your side to win, and the aggression in Philpotts coaching techniques comes through in the books he has published and the results obtained by following them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Helpful, insightful, a must for any leggie (13 September 2000)Peter Philpott is a great coach. Not only was he a great help to the greatest leg spinner of all time - Shane Warne - , his secrets are now available to everyone. The ideas of dip, drift, turn and bounce become central in the mind of any spin bowler, as it should be. Deliveries such as the flipper, orthodox back-spinner, leggie, top-spinner and wrong'un are all explained. This work is a must have for any cricketer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Years of trial & error eliminated in one book (02 March 2000)Peter Philpotts book is a treasure trove of explanation of what is sometimes wrongly treated as a secret. He explains in simple easy to follow stages what you should do to bowl every ball in the wrist spinners armoury. He never minimises the amount of effort required to become an effective wrist spinner but he does much to encourage those who are willing to do what it takes. As the father of a keen young leg spinner i would say that this book is worth the price for just one of the insights gained (it has corrected my sons concept of wind in relation to wrist spin as one example). Peter is obviously a coach of some ability, he seems to second guess( because he has been there first) every point which needs making explicit. The section on the mental aspects of bowling wrist spin is particularly good reading His willingness & enthusiasm in passing on his knowledge to those who would follow is admirable . Buy it. Bravo Peter ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent - Perhaps it should be given to England's spinners (16 November 1998)Because we know the Ashes is going to be a disaster. | ![]() |
