  SLEEPING LIKE A LOG (23 October 2008)
(For some reason 3 of the other reviews here seem to relate to "Total Flying Confidence". ?????????????????????)

First and foremost the thing you need to know is that this tape really works. Paul McKenna knows what he is doing. As a life long insomniac (with atrocious sleep patterns due to ill health) I could count on one hand the number of nights where I: 1)got to sleep quickly 2)stayed asleep without waking up more than very lightly 3)slept 7 or 8 hours 4)the sleep was of reasonable quality. Since listening to this tape every day for two weeks this wonderful pattern of sleep has become the norm. I used to fear going to bed (hours of miserable tossing and turning and worrying - if you're reading this review then I'm sure you're familiar with all the miseries of being unable to sleep). Now I virtually look forward to it. Bottom line, if if can work for me then it stands a fair chance of working for anyone however great their issues.

All other considerations are secondary to whether the techniques and process works but still worth looking at. The tape is a pleasure to use. Part one (I only listened to it a handful of times) clearly and gently describes good "sleep hygeine". Stuff like only using your bed for sleep, only going to bed when actually sleepy, always getting up at the same time each day regardless of whether you got enough hours. McKenna described these as the six golden rules. They're useful and well reasearche cognitive behaviour techniques.

The real gem though is the second track which is the Hypnotic Trance. Very very pleasant. Nothing funny or spooky in the least. His voice is very warm and reassuring and lots of hyptotic suggestions that make you feel good in general about yourself and the world are mixed in with those that relate directly to sleep. I do drift when listening to this second track - which I still do most days as I've only been on the programme a couple of months. But its a gently drifting and I wake up "refreshed and alert" just as instructed! It has really taught my subconscious mind to let go of the all the chatter and allow sleep to happen. But a really useful tip here. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE TAPE WITH YOUR CONSCIOUS MIND. Years ago I tried a similar tape and it did not work. I am sure that this is in part because I really listened to it - like you would the radio story. Instead, with this I let my conscious mind gently drift over boring unimportant thoughts and let the tape get to work on my subconscious where it can really do its good. Nice music, nice voice. Good safe pair of hands. Clever Ericksonian hynotherapy.

Summary: A really good hypnotherapist doing a great job of reassuring the subconscious mind that you really can go to sleep and sleep well. This tape does what it says on the packet. Nuff said!

Does exactly what it says on the tin (28 May 2004)
Like both of the other reviewers I can honestly say that this CD has almost changed my life - I would never have believed I could feel so calm about flying as I do now - having prevously had to be prescribed sedatives or been drunk to fly, I am now absolutely fine and relaxed. I was a sceptic when I bought this but at the stage of being willing to try anything short of general anaesethesia. I wil never again try to get off a plane after the doors are closed.

If only I'd have bought it years ago! (03 May 2004)
With 2 weeks to go to my holiday and an 11hour flight to LA, I had a panic attack whilst out shopping - you see I have been petrified of flying for over 25 years, I have not let it stop me from flying - to America several times and Europe often, however as friends and family can vouch, I am a nightmare to travel with. About 3 weeks before flying that's all I can think about, stomach in knots and feeling sick with worry, at airport I'm usually in the toilet for a couple of hours before boarding, on flight hands gripped on arm rests or nails digging into whoever is unfortunate enough to be travelling with me, it doesn't matter what anyone tells me about flying statistics or safety records, it makes no difference. I couldn't eat or drink, just sat in seat thinking we're going to crash, we're going to crash. If this sounds anything like you - get this CD. I played it 8 times before travelling and took it with me on plane. 1st time I played it (before going to bed) I felt totally relaxed and the
next day I felt very calm, this calmness continued. I was not worried about flying for the remaining time up to my flight. At the airport I was calm, enjoyed food and drink, shopped a little then queued to get on flight still calm, I noticed things about the whole boarding/flying experience, that I had never been aware of before as I was too scared. I kept expecting a wave of panic to sweep over me at any minute but it didn't, I can honestly say that I enjoyed the 11hr flight, I ate and drank, walked around, chatted to other travellers, looked out the windows, things I would not have been able to do before. I can't believe that flying can be such an enjoyable experience, I thought I'd always be in a state before, during and after flying, well you've got to get back haven't you. I've been back a month and am eagerly planning my next trip, again to the States at the end of the year. If you do nothing else for yourself to help your fear of flying, invest in this CD IT WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK & FEEL ABOUT TRAVELLING!!! I cannot praise it enough and I'm merrily spreading the word to family and friends.

It was relaxing... but (18 January 2004)
I bought five of Paul McKennas CDs which were supreme self confidence, easy weight loss, eliminate stress, sleep like a log and motivation power!. Although they were very relaxing that is ALL I found them to be. I thought it was me so I gave two to my girlfriend and she found them to be the same.

They just do not work for me or anyone else I know who have tried them.

I would say that hypnotism works for me as I stopped smoking through going to a hypnotist, and I would recommend anyone to go to a hypnotherapist, but as for these CDs save your money.

Total Flying Confidence (21 October 2003)
I am a total non believer as far as this kind of thing goes, but having to fly a lot with work ment that it got to a stage where I would give anything a try. A totaly non commited me sat down and listened for the first time, and I felt a bit better about the whole thing, there wasn't that nervous knot in my stomach. Two weeks passed and it was time to put it to the test! Although extremly nervous for about 5 seconds when I sat in my seat that soon went and before I knew it I was looking out the window, chatting away with a HUGE smile on my face. I even started to fall asleep at one point, something that I can assure you would never have happened before. Truely amazing and life changing. P.S. I'm flying again this week and can't wait!!!!
